"Huset” is one of Longyearbyen’s most
legendary buildings. During the dark season you see it lit up at the top of the
valley, the towns beacon for culture and community. The infamous house was
built in 1951 and Initially served the purpose of a village hall. The name “Huset”
came from the people as it was collectively known as the definitive “House”.
There has been serving of fine liquors, beers and wines since it was first
permitted in the '50s.
